Facts about Cialis and Erectile Dysfunction

Cialis is one of the popular medications in treating erectile dysfunction or impotence. Cialis works by relaxing your muscles and increasing the blood flow to certain areas of your body. It can also be used for other medicinal purposes as prescribed by your physician.

If you wish to take Cialis, make sure you are not using any kind of nitrate medications for heart problems and chest paints. These drugs include nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate and nitrite. This is an important precaution because nitrate medications could cause a major decrease in your blood pressure, which could lead to fainting, heart attack, or stroke.

Cialis cannot be taken more than once each day. You should allow at least 24 hours between each doses. If you experience painful erection or an erection that lasted longer than four hours, seek immediate medical attention. Be aware that priapism (a condition wherein erection is prolonged) could damage your penis.

Any time during your Cialis medication and you experience dizziness, nausea, pain, numbness, hives, allergic reactions, difficulty breathing and tingling of your jaw, arms, neck or chest during sexual activity, immediately stop taking Cialis and seek for medical attention. These conditions are the severe side effects of Cialis.

Sudden vision loss is a rare side effect of Cialis medication. This is caused by the decrease of blood flow to the patient’s optic nerve. There is no medical evidence to prove that Cialis caused this kind of vision loss.

However, patients who have reported Cialis to cause vision loss are diagnosed with diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disorders, high blood pressure, existing eye problems or people with smoking habits and those above 50 years old. Regardless of Cialis’ relation to vision loss, it is recommended that you discontinue Cialis medication when you experience sudden loss of vision.

Serious side effects of Cialis include chest pains, nausea, sweating, irregular heartbeats, swelling of hands, feet or ankles, difficulty of breathing, lightheadedness, fainting, vision changes, painful penis erection or erections that last four hours and longer. When any of these side effects occur, stop using Cialis and immediately consult with your doctor.

Minor side effects of Cialis include redness of chest, face, or neck, headaches, upset stomachs, back pains and stuffy nose. You can continue to use Cialis, but talk to your doctor to ensure no health problems will be aggravated.

A variety of drugs could affect Cialis. For this reason, it is important to discuss with your doctor about certain medications, health history and other concerns about treating erectile dysfunction.
