How to Pick the Right Contact Lenses for You
When trying to decide which contact lenses to buy, consumers are faced with hundreds of options. There are value brands, mid level brands and the big brand names like Acuvue, Freshlook and Durasoft. With all of these options, how can you choose which contacts are right for you? There are a few things you should look at when trying to choose the right brand.
Company History
The first thing you should look at when choosing a brand of contact lenses is the company history. Have you heard of the manufacturer? How long have they been making lenses? Have they had any recalls? If it is a manufacturer like Johnson and Johnson, Ciba Vision or Bausch and Lomb, you know you are in good hands. All of these companies have been producing contact lenses for over twenty years. If the company is less than ten years old, you might want to research them a little further.
You can also look for product recalls. Acuvue recalled a large number of their Trueye Contacts last year, but that doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't wear their products. They were quick to recall their Trueye line even though the probability of faulty products was low. A lot of people think that helps their reputation rather than hurt it.
User Reviews
User reviews are a great way to see what people think of a product. Sites like 1800 Contacts and Lens.com both show hundreds of user reviews for almost every contact lens on the market. Seeing reviews from everyday users will give you a great idea of how good a contact lens really is. Any product that has at least 3.5 out of 5 stars can be seen as a quality contact lens.
Ask your Doctor
Last but certainly not least, you can talk to your optometrist about what contact lens is right for you. Your doctor knows your eyes better than anyone else, and can prescribe a specific lens for you based on your vision needs. This is critical if you have an astigmatism or any other special need. Usually your eye doctor can get you a free sample of the lenses you want to, which will make the process of picking a lens even easier!
If you put the time and effort in to do the aforementioned ideas, you should have no problem find the right contact lens for you. Even with all of the research in the world, you still may need to do a little trial and error to find a brand that fits your eyes perfectly.
