Importance of Data Backup

Both individuals and businesses need to plan a data backup strategy to protect information such as business contacts, emails, text documents, presentations, contracts, accounts and other valuable information needed in performing business using their computers.

Unfortunately, saving up your files in your personal computer does not guarantee that all information will be saved. Be aware that accidents and system failures do happen. Backing up your data can prevent data loss when:

1) Files and folders from your computer are deleted by failure or accident.

If the deleted files are important for your daily tasks or businesses, you need to perform backup regularly for these files. You should determine which files are critically important to your work and business. Then, plan your data backup.

Search for an excellent data backup software, which could help you in backing up your important files on a regular basis. Ensure that you keep the files you need in a safe place.

If you want additional backup strategy, you can store your files on a secured online server. However, if you use this option, make sure that the data is always decrypted for privacy purposes.

2) Data is destroyed from hard disk error or virus infection.

When a hard disk fails, your only choice is to repair it or buy a new hard disk. Either way, you have to reformat the disk. Meaning, all your files will be erased. Fortunately, if you have performed a data backup before the hard disk error, you can restore the data from the backup as soon as the reformat is completed.

An effective way to restore data is to use a hard disk image backup solution. This way, you can restore the data from your backup directly into your new hard disk.

3) Your computer is physically destroyed from natural disaster, fire or someone steals your computer.

Compared to the other scenarios, this situation is the most serious. However, if you have performed a backup for your important data, you will be able to restore information to a new computer.

However, a problem with this scenario is that you cannot restore your data unless the new computer has the same configuration as your old computer. To solve this problem, you have to buy the same operating system and install the same programs to your new computer.

Since data loss can be a very serious problem to your work or business, data backup is an important habit. However, simply backing up data should be paired with storing the files in a safe place. Save all your passwords, perform regular hard disk maintenance and always make secure data backups for your files and folders.
