A Look at Dental CostsIs dental insurance worth the money? In the United States, dental insurance coverage costs approximately $250 per year. In a year’s time, would you really use up that much money paying for dental care on your own? Looking at national averages is a great way to see how much you can save by purchasing dental insurance. Prices are based on averages from two years ago.
·Braces: Depending on the patient’s age, braces cost between $4,500 and $5,800 plus an additional examination to size and determine which type of bracing device is needed.
·Cleanings: Routine cleanings are highly recommended twice a year. During this time, children should have one fluoride treatment per year. X-rays should be taken every one to three years, and then your teeth will be cleaned and checked for weaknesses or cavities. The total for all x-rays, fluoride treatments, and cleanings range from $150 to $170 depending on the type of X-ray that is required.
·Crowns: These are very expensive. To build up the area so that a crown can be installed, expect to pay between $170 and $400 for each stage. The actual crowns range in price from $677 to $876. Reattaching a crown will cost you $70.
·Dentures: For a complete set of upper dentures, the price tag is set at $1,100. Lower dentures cost the same. This puts the cost for full dentures at $2,200.
·Extractions: Having your teeth pulled can also be very expensive. A single tooth extraction costs $100. If you need to have the tooth surgically removed, you will pay $190 per tooth. Teeth that are more firmly set in the bone (wisdom teeth), cost $325 to $775 each to remove. The anesthesia costs almost $200 per unit.
·Fillings: Amalgam (metal) fillings in baby teeth range from $74 to $107 and $97 to $128 in permanent teeth. Resin fillings, only done in permanent teeth, range from $91 to $218.
·Gingivitis: If this is a problem, you can expect to pay up to $200 per tooth. The worst-case scenario comes with a price tag of $4,500.
·Inlays: $405 to $784 is the average price range depending on the size.
·Root Canal: Molars are the most expensive. A root canal on one molar averages $750 to $800. In addition, there is the cost for anesthetics, drainage, and pulp work that adds on another $425 usually.
·Spacers: If maintaining proper space for teeth to come in is an issue, you can have spacers put in at $340 each.
