Hiring an Investment Manager

For many people, the thought of hiring someone else to handle their financial investments seems frivolous, yet they will freely admit to knowing very little about how the investment markets operate. Therefore, in the scheme of things, if one does not know how the market operates, it makes sound financial sense to hire someone who can assist in that process. Whether you choose to have someone help you make sound investments or want someone who can also help you manage your investments, you want to be certain that the person you choose is knowledgeable, professional, and trustworthy.

In the investment management field, titles can often be confusing, and in many cases are similar in meaning. Such is the case with a financial advisor. In many cases, financial advisor and investment manager mean the same thing and perform the same types of services. Of course, most people think of a financial advisor as someone who helps them make financial investment choices, but they do not think of an advisor in terms of helping them manage their investment portfolio.

Of course, it is possible that an individual performs only one of these functions, but that does not mean that a person is not capable of both advising and managing investments for the same client. Of course, it’s important that a person have enough expertise in the field to have the ability to perform both functions simultaneously. For some, the task is a difficult one, so they prefer to do either one or the other, at least until they become more familiar with the changing trends and can work with each client closely.

Although it may appear that the individual roles of advisor and manager are interchangeable, that may not always be the case. An advisor may theoretically be called upon for advice regarding a specific investment and not continue to service the client for other needs, and thus, the role does not relate in any way to that of managing the client’s portfolio. On the other hand, one can be called upon to give advice on new investments and manage all aspects of the portfolio as well.

Even if one is only buying stocks, he ma choose to hire an someone to assist him in managing his holdings so that he knows what investments he should keep and which ones he should discard. It’s more financially feasible to have someone who can be unbiased in his presentation of the best investments to make. If, for example, your bank has a brokerage division, and you are using them to buy and sell your stocks, bonds, and securities, find someone who is not connected to the bank to manage the distribution and retention of your investments. A private financial advisor/manager will offer a better opportunity for you to earn the highest return on all of your investments.
