A Look at Pet Insurance CompaniesMany people are purchasing pet insurance policies to cover unexpected and even routine veterinary care for their dogs and cats. It can be difficult to choose between companies, however, without knowing the differences in plans and prices. These are the biggest plans offered in the United States.
ASPCA Pet Insurance
For years, the ASPCA has worked tirelessly to protect animals throughout the United States. Realizing that the rising cost of veterinarian care is making it difficult for families to adopt animals, they now offer affordable pet insurance plans through the Hartville Group, Inc.
The ASPCA offers five plans:
1. Advantage Plan—Rates start at $23 a month for cats and $30 a month for dogs. Coverage includes yearly checks, basic vaccines, spaying/neutering, heartworm testing, and emergency care.
2. Premiere Plan—Rates begin at $47 a month for cats and $54 a month for dogs. On top of the coverage offered in the Advantage Plan, this plan covers flea and heartworm prevention, lyme disease prevention or care, kennel cough vaccines, and dental care.
3. Primary Care—This plan starts at $11 a month for cats and $16 a month for dogs. If your animal is in an accident or needs emergency care, the insurance plan will cover $1,500 per incident. You will not pay for x-rays, diagnostic tests, surgeries, or hospitalization.
4. Safety Plan—This is the least expensive plan at $7 a month for cats and $9 a month for dogs. Coverage covers bone fractures, burns, and other accidents. The company covers $2,500 per incident.
5. Sterling Plan—This extensive plan is $67 a month for cats and $76 a month for dogs. It covers everything from dental care to vaccinations. Yearly exams, lab tests, emergency services, and even chronic conditions are covered.
