Tips for Shoe Shopping on a Budget

Shopping for shoes on a tight budget doesn’t have to be nerve-wracking or a huge, overwhelming source of stress.

In fact, there are a number of tips you can use to help you save a considerable chunk of change when shoe shopping. You just have to know how and where to find the best deals on shoes.

Many shoe stores—both local shops and department stores as well as online outlets and retailers—offer coupons, big sales (with advance notice), and special bonuses and rewards programs. The trick is knowing how to get your hands on these little money-saving perks.

One way to keep abreast and informed of the latest and best sales is to visit shoe store websites, sign up for their newsletters via e-mail, and find online coupons and coupon codes. These coupons can generally be used at any time and aren’t related to any particular sale or sales items.

You can also find savings through membership with various shoe retailers that will allow you to accumulate rewards points and bonuses or enjoy special members-only discounts and deals—or both. Try and stick with programs that are free to join. If there is a cost involved, find out how much it is, and whether it will be worth it to you in the long run.

Another way to save money while shoe shopping on a budget is to do some comparison shopping and shop around, and to try out different brands as well as stores. While this may seem like a no-brainer tip, some avid shoe shoppers always buy the same brand of shoes at the same store.

If you shop around, you may be able to find the exact same pair somewhere else for a better deal. In addition, if you’re willing to try a new style or brand, you may find something new that you really love that’s even cheaper than what you were buying before.

No matter what you all do to try and save money when shopping for shoes, it’s important to remember to only buy what you’ll really need and use for footwear. Some shoppers have the bad habit of buying something just because it’s on sale. For example, doesn’t it make more sense to buy a pair of pumps for $35 if you love them and know you’re going to get good use out of them, than it does buying discount pumps for $15 that you might only wear twice in your life?

On the other hand, some shoe shoppers know exactly what they want and will pay any price to get it. You’re better off avoiding both extremes.

Take some time, shop around, do some online surfing, and you’ll be sure to find a great pair of shoes that you love, that you’ll wear—often—and that are on sale, or discounted, or for which you can accumulate rewards or find coupons. Keeping an open eye out and following some of these tips should help you get on the right path to shoe shopping on a budget.
