Starting a Business in Website Hosting

For those who are looking for an online business and have an advanced knowledge of HTML, website hosting may be something for you to consider. There is little monetary investment required beyond advertising and maybe an upgrade to your computer system in order to accommodate the extra memory requirements while you work on sites for your clients. It can be quite a lucrative venture if you know many of the little tricks and shortcuts in order to finish the job and please the client.

As an individual web site host rather than a company, you have lower overhead and therefore have a financial edge over a bigger company who has to pay overhead and employee salaries. One can see some of those websites selling for as much as $200-300 annually in comparison to a small operator who can operate on a half of that amount and less.

On the other hand, you may choose to only provide the hosting of the website and not the building and maintaining. Many web space providers offer page builder software with their hosting that accommodates both the client with html knowledge and those who have little or no html knowledge.

Web site hosting can provide a rather lucrative income whether you choose only self-building options or offer the option of site building as well. You have to look at both angles and determine if you want to do both or if you want to simply provide the space and technical support for those who desire to build their own inexpensive website with software that you provide on the homepage of your hosting site.

No matter how you decide to operate your business, you will need to have software in place either for your client to access to build his website or for you to build it for him. How much you want to take upon yourself to do depends on how much money you wish to earn in your business venture and how much time you have to devote to taking care of your clients.

If you are looking for something that you can do on a part-time basis, you probably want to limit yourself to that of a web space provider rather than a full service website hosting operation. As a web space provider, you don’t need to interact too much with your customers unless there are technical issues with their website or they have trouble working with the site builder program you have in place.
