Time Share Scams
Did you know that while there are many legitimate, reliable, and helpful time share companies and corporations ready to help you find the right time share to suit your needs and preferences, there are also many shady organizations who only care about making money and their commissions, and even outright fraudulent companies who don’t even sell legitimate time shares?
Many innocent victims get sucked into timeshare scams and end up with a low-quality time share, an empty wallet, and none of the deals or extras they were promised. How can you avoid these time share scams?
First, before you talk to a time share corporation and especially before you head off to a “free” time share presentation/getaway weekend, learn all you can. Information is your greatest weapon. If you come across as naïve, uninformed, and completely clueless, the less-then-reputable companies will be drawn to you like a lioness to its prey, ready to pounce and sell you something of poor quality for way too much money that you don’t want or need.
Do some research ahead of time to determine what is available as far as time shares go, the real facts and figures, what exactly you need and are looking for in a time share, where you would like to vacation on a regular basis, and, perhaps most importantly, your budget! Determine an acceptable and reasonable price range for a potential time share, and make sure you take all the different costs into consideration.
Once you feel you are armed with sufficient knowledge, then you can talk to a time share salesperson or attend one of these timeshare presentations. Remember, these salespeople are good at what they do, and can lure unsuspecting people in quicker than they realize. Listen to what they have to say, but take it all in with a grain of salt. You already have much of the information you need, including what you want and how much you can afford. Don’t let anyone sway you otherwise.
If you’ve spotted a time share deal or option that sounds good, make sure to ask plenty of questions. It’s especially important to read every single word and understand every single concept down to the tiniest detail of a contract before you sign it.
Timeshares are great vacation options for many people, and offer many benefits. However, it pays to be careful and watch out for sneaky time share salespeople and shady corporations who just want your money.
