Thermography is the more common for wedding invitations choice today. After the bride and groom have selected the wording for their invitation, an image of the print is caught on a negative. A printing plate is created from this negative. The printing plate and card stock are loaded into a printing press machine.
As the paper goes through the machine, ink is sprayed onto the printing plate and transferred to the card stock. After the ink has been transferred to the card stock, a duster coats the wet ink with a translucent powder. From here, the cards are run through an oven where the powder solidifies creating the raised print. Thermography is relatively inexpensive and extremely elegant.
Using Contemporary Wedding Invitations for a Whimsical Feels
Contemporary invitations are also inexpensive. Due to their whimsical style, they are only suggested for casual weddings. Contemporary invitations use colored card stock or paper and colorful ink. A printer using colored ink prints the wording onto the card stock.
Colored ink can also be used in Thermography, but it is not as common. Contemporary invitations are easier to personalize than other types of invitations. For example, the couple’s photo can be added to the front of the card with ease. Decorative images such as flowers, ribbons, wedding rings, doves, etc. can also be printed on the front of the paper or card stock to suit the bride and groom’s personal taste.
Using Computer Generated Wedding Invitations for a Casual Feel
Computer generated or printed wedding invatations are generally made at home or at an inexpensive print shop using a computer printer. The invitation wording is printed onto paper in mass quantities. This is the least expensive invitation out there, but it also tends to lack the style of its competition.
Using Engraved Wedding Invitations for the Highest Level of Style and Class
Finally, the most expensive wedding invitation is one that has been engraved. The bride and groom's wording is etched as a mirror image into a copper plate. A machine coats the letters of the wedding invitations with ink and then stamps the card stock or paper. The resulting product leaves raised lettering on one side of the paper and indentations on the other side of the paper. This is an expensive process, but the most regal of all wedding invitation offerings.
