Obesity has been a major issue worldwide. Even at a young age of six, even children have become uncontrollably overweight. Many experts agree that obesity is one of the fastest growing problems in the U.S. and other parts of the world.

For anyone who frequently watches TV, you may have seen those commercials claiming you can eat all you want, without exercise and still lose extra weight. These commercials often advertise magical weight loss pills. Regardless of how tempting the infomercials may seem, it is important that you separate the facts and fiction of weight loss pills.

Weight loss pills are categorized not as drugs, but as dietary supplements. Meaning, the FDA regulations emphasize that no one can prove how weight loss pills work. Although many weight loss pills claim of fast results, there is still no scientific research to support these claims.

According to medical experts, weight loss pills have no scientific proof that they work. However, many people still promote and support weight loss pills in the hopes of losing weight the easy way.

For some personal trainers, weight loss pills can provide assistance to achieve their fitness goals. However, weight loss pills should always be taken in conjunction with proper diet and exercise.

While many people claim certain weight loss pills did help them achieve the weight they desired, others believe it is all “in the mind”. The following weight loss pills are categorized based on how they work.

Fat trappers – Generally, these kinds of weight loss pills contain chitosan, which comes from powdered shells of various kinds of shellfishes. Supposedly, these weight loss pills bind to the fat of the food, preventing it from being digested.

Although there has been evidence to prove that these kinds of weight loss pills do prevent fat absorption, the effects can be too small for you to notice them. In addition, it could be an obstruction on your body’s ability to absorb healthy “fat-soluble” nutrients.

Fat burners – Basically, deit pills categorized as “fat burners contain a combination of any of the following: herb-derived stimulants, pyruvate, chromium picolinate, hydroxycitric acid and/or essential fatty acids.

Fat burners supposedly increase your energy while stimulating the burning of fats. While many fitness experts agree that these weight loss pills work in conjunction with exercise, their safety is a major concern.

Although there have been reports that diet pills have positive effects on weight reduction, they can be an expensive part of your budget costing hundreds of dollars monthly.

Be aware that even experts who support these weight loss pills agree that these products should be combined with proper diet and exercise. But if you expect to lose weight by taking weight loss pills without lifestyle changes, you will be wasting your money.

Supplementation of weight loss pills comes down to a combination of eating a balanced diet and following a daily exercise regimen.
